How to change HDD/SSD in Dell Precision laptops

For many users, getting the most out of their is a high priority. Sometimes this involves upgrading elements that aren’t as new or high-spec as they could be. Hard drive capacity is an important factor for almost anyone, and newer SSDs are gradually becoming more useful.

All things considered, at some point you might want to upgrade the hard drive even on an advanced model like a Dell Precision laptop. Here’s how to go about it.

 

1) Ensure all your files are backed up and you are ready to install a new operating system if you’re starting from scratch on a new disk.

2) Get your replacement hard drive ready to go, once you’re fully confident that it’s compatible with your exact Precision model.

3) Turn off your laptop and turn it over. Remove the battery by sliding the switch and lifting it off.

4) Undo the screws (usually there will be two) holding the back panel on.

5) Remove panel on the base of your laptop and locate the hard drive.

6) Undo the screws holding the hard drive in place. There will usually be four, one in each corner.

7) Undo the screw holding the hard disk release slider in place.

8) Slide the release switch. Pop out and slide out the metal drawer containing the .

9) Put the new drive into the drawer, ensuring it is fitted the same way as the old one.

10) Insert the drawer and replace the release slider screw.

11) Replace the other screws, the back panel, the final screws and the battery.

12) Turn on the laptop and install your operating system if necessary, then you can go ahead with adding your files and working on your newly upgraded laptop!
