Samsung Announces Ground Breaking SSD

If you’ve got a solid state drive () on your and you think it performs well now, wait until you try Samsung’s new high performance, low powered SSD.
Samsung’s new SSD is part of their latest developments for storage components that are coming to and laptop component suppliers. By relying on a PCIe slot it means that the SSD will not only be much faster and efficient, but it will also use up much less of the internal space in the . Because of this, the free space can now be used for the battery pack, components and for making even sleeker and thinner – which is Samsung’s current focus with the SSD – ultra-slim notebooks. The SM951 MLC flash SSD has been designed to run on laptops that run of the new Broadwell-U chip.
This new SSD has binned SATA off for the PCIe (m.2) interface – which we think is a good choice. The advantage of the new interface is it’s much much faster, because the PCIe in Samsung’s new SSD is four times faster than the fastest SATA based SSD on the market. Pretty impressive, right? The new PCIe SSD will boast the brand new L1.2 power standby mode which will mean the power consumption in hibernate or sleep mode will be reduced by a whopping 97%, it does this by turning off any high speed circuits when the PC goes into either of these modes. This means that it is possible for a laptop with the new SM951 MLC flash SSD to stay in hibernation mode for months, yes you read that right, months. The SSD will be available to buy as 128GB, 256GB and 512GB models, but as you can probably image, it will only be available to manufacturers first, as it’s only just entered the mass production stages. But we’re hoping it will be on the market very soon, don’t worry we’ll let you know as soon as it is. Keep checking into our blog for more Samsung developments.
