Dell Sets Sights On the Cloud with New Mobile-Focused Printers
As the world moves ever closer to a future where smartphones and tablet PCs take over as our primary platforms for working on documents, Dell is investing heavily in new cloud printing technology.
The practice of using smaller mobile devices to access documents is accelerating at record pace, which is leading to unprecedented demand for new-generation printing solutions and compatible hardware. According to Dell officials, the company is lining up the launch of a wide range of new hardware and software products, which have been designed and engineered to make printing from a mobile device easier than ever before.
In addition, Dell spoke of the severity with which the brand is taking data security – a common concern when using mobile devices to print wirelessly.
One of the new printers has just been unveiled by Dell in the United States – the new E525W colour multifunction printer carries a price tag of $329. There’s also a trio of new monochrome printers joining the mix, which are priced from as little as $179. Each of the four new printers now on the market from Dell has been created with standard domestic, small business and student use in mind – low to medium-level usage. However, Dell’s global product line manager, Orlando Lacayo, revealed that a brand new range of ‘F-Series’ printers will be on the market before the end of the year, which will bring the same features and functionalities to higher-end business users.
Each new mobile-focused printer released by Dell supports Google Cloud and features Wi-Fi connectivity. Android mobile devices with Mopria Alliance’s Mopria app will also be supported by the new Dell hardware, allowing for fast and easy direct printing.
While printing has never been the number-one priority for Dell in terms of both hardware and software design and retail, the company has been making significant efforts as of late to improve cloud functionality to the same standards as Canon, HP, Epson and others. Dell’s Document Hub will also be overhauled and complemented with a series of new features to make full use of the new cloud-focused printers, which are expected to launch in the UK later this year.
