Next gen NVIDIA Fermi GT300 GPU delayed until 2010
Taiwanese industry sources say the release of NVIDIA’s Fermi GT300 GPU has been delayed until Fiscal 2011 (January 26-April 26, 2010), which for the company means not until at least late January 2010.
Nvidia will ramp Fermi for three different product lines: GeForce, Quadro and Tesla in the first quarter of fiscal 2011, said Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of Nvidia, during a recent conference call with financial analysts. Huang’s statement means that Nvidia will only be able to start shipping its Fermi-based GPUs in 2010, instead of the end of 2009 as originally planned, the sources pointed out.
Supplies of AMD’s Radeon HD 5000-series GPUs currently remain tight as yields of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC’s) 40nm node have not yet reached expected levels, inhibiting AMD’s chance to seriously undermine Nvidia’s sales at present, explained the sources.
