Industry sources are confident that AMD is getting ready to axe a lot of jobs in Q1 2010. AMD already cut a lot of jobs in European operations in late 2008 and 2009 and it looks like the same strategy will continue in 2010.

One of the biggest areas AMD is suffering in is the CPU market. AMD is significantly behind Intel in terms of market share and with the success of Core i5 and i7 it looks like this will stay that way at least until AMD reveal its next generation CPU architecture codenamed Bulldozer.
